The Kitchen Apothecary
Join us for Brianne Cellemme-Short’s Gardners as Teachers Worksop - The Kitchen Apothecary: How to Make A Herbal Salve.
Discover the art of turning infused herbal oils into nourishing healing salves in this hands-on kitchen herbalism workshop.
Together, we’ll create a multi-purpose herbal salve while learning the foundational techniques needed to customize your own blends for skincare and everyday wellness.
Participants will leave with a sample of the salve made in class and a take-home recipe to continue building their home apothecary.

Gardeners as Teachers: Honey for the Soul
Donette Lowe will be starting us off with our first 2026 Gardeners as Teachers Workshop, Honey for the Soul!
Join Donette as she shares the history, spirit, and hands-on knowledge behind electuaries (a traditional honey-based herbal remedy that is simple, flavorful, and rich in story).
Participants will learn about the science of honey, how to properly dry herbs they collect, and more while reconnecting with ancestral healing practices and herbal traditions.

MLK Day of Service
This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, honor his legacy with a day of service at the Catawba Trail Farm. Together, we’ll tackle hands-on projects that help maintain and beautify our community space while making a meaningful impact.

2025 Food Distribution
An unexpected blessing has arrived, and right on time. We are grateful to share that UCAN has secured funding to host a November Food Distribution, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Please save the date and stop by the Catawba Trail Farm on Tuesday, November 25th starting at 9am for our November Food Distribution. Come pick up your free box of fresh NC produce, and we will also have 50 turkeys available on a first come, first serve basis.

UCAN's 3rd Annual Boston Butt Fundraiser
UCAN’s Third Annual Boston Butt Fundraiser is back, and this year we’re raising funds for Capacity Building! Capacity Building allows us to strengthen and expand UCAN, including beginning construction and enhancing our Welcome Center to generate additional revenue, supporting staff and volunteer needs with materials and supplies, and covering essential operational costs.
Enjoy a fun-filled day for the whole family at the farm! Enjoy games, farm tours, and delicious food, including Boston Butt sandwich plates made with local meat and fish plates. It’s the perfect opportunity to have fun with us while supporting Urban Community AgriNomics (UCAN)!
